Don Rosa's comments: PROLOGUE: The Aku Ankka - magazine is celebrating in 2001 its respectable half a century journey. The editors of the Finnish DD have always been good at inventing nice surprises from all over the world for their friends, and that's what they did again, when selecting the material for the Aku Ankka anniversary calendar - in a Parisian bistro! I have made these pictures originally for PICSOU, the French U$-magazine. Which is why they require a bit of an explanation. First of all, the picture motifs may seem strange, unless you already know that they are designed to fit a certain magazine contents. Another thing is, my drawing board only produces sketches, so I don't deserve the credit for the excellent coloration of the pictures. It is my typical luck that the French inker has a blabby aunt who lives in Espoo. So I cannot even pretend to brag about the colors. Damn! My friends in Helsinki Media have asked me write short introductory texts to these twelve calendar pictures. I also intend to hint where the dedication is hidden, which I always hide into my covers and splash panels. To my new friends I can tell you that I have always hidden the initials "D.U.C.K" into my stories. It is shorthand for "Dedicated to Unca Carl from Keno". You probably know, who Carl (Barks) is (and if you don't, you should be ashamed!) and why I dedicate all the duck-stories I've made to him. And "Keno" is my first given name, but I've always used my second given name "Don". A lot will change in the world in 50 years, but luckily the Aku Ankka - magazine has brought Duckburg to the Finnish readers regularly. Enjoy the anniversary of Aku Ankka!
