SEPTEMBER: RACE TO THE SOUTH SEAS

The source for this picture is the Barks-story 'Race to the South Seas' ('Kilpapurjehdus etelä- merelle', AA 2/98). It originally appeared in 1949 in a free bulletin from shoe stores as a part of a series 'March of Comics'. The series appeared in 1946 - 1982 and it contained 488 issues, each introducing a different comic character. Only six of these magazines featured Donald Duck and of those only three contained famous Barks-stories. (Very rare! Collectors, note!) This story is also famous for other reasons: it is the first time that the fabulous luck of Gladstone Gander is mentioned. Just look at the Dame Luck smiling at him while he is searching for the stranded $crooge.

(D.U.C.K. spoiler: look at the water between the boats.)
