JANUARY: THE SON OF THE SUN

Well, this is a cute choice for the January pin-up. the first month of the year is represented by the first story of my career. "The Son of the Sun" was the very first Duck story I ever wrote or drew (as well as being the very first professional comic work I ever did). That was in 1986, and I did this "montage" pin-up of story elements 12 years later to accompany a reprinting of that first Rosa Duck adventure. As many fans know, this was the reworking of a story I had done using my own characters as a daily comedy-adventure strip back in 1973 for my engineering college newspaper. I used most of the plot of that South American treasure hunt in "The Son of the Sun", but a few scenes (including the one on an Andean suspension foot-bridge such as you see here) I saved and used in my 10th anniversary story "The Last Lord of Eldorado" when I again had $crooge and Flintheart Glomgold compete for another legendary South American treasure. I'm doing a lot of cheating with this design! Donald and each Nephew appear twice -- once on that bridge and once hanging from the "Eye of Manco Capac" parachute. Flintheart appears 3 times - In the foreground as well as being a figure dangling from each of the two parachutes. And ol' $crooge appears 4 times! -- in the foreground, inside the golden Incan costume at center-stage, hanging from the "Eye" parachute, and flying the flaming airplane (well, he's in that cockpit somewhere).

(D.U.C.K. spoiler: The dedication is carved vertically on the column in the left rear corner of the temple courtyard wall.)
