Don Rosa's comments: AUGUST: BIG-TOP BEDLAM Well. I had no trouble writing about my pin-ups which were based on my favorite Barks stories, but now what can I write about a Barks story that I' m. uh. not too keen on? I can't even say I have a fondness for this tale as being in one of my sister's comics that I grew up with - those stories all have a place in my heart regardless of their merits. But this issue of DONALD DUCK seems to have been one that she missed buying when it was on sale a year or two before I was even born. It's not one of the grand adventures that I prefer; it's simply a tale of slapstick humor as Donald tries to retrieve an heirloom brooch that belongs to Daisy Duck. It has fallen into the hands of Zippo the Quick-Change Artist of the traveling circus that has stopped in Duckburg, and Donald spends most of the story chasing Zippo around the big-top (the American vernacular for the main tent of a circus) during a performance. Zippo eludes Donald in comical ways as he switches into his various identities, some of which you see shown here clustered around the image of Zippo in his official circus uniform. And. uh. let's see. um. well, if you need more text about this particular story, I can only suggest you go back and read the above 3 more times. (D.U.C.K. spoiler: At times the colorist, who is never told of the existence of my hidden dedication, inadvertently obliterates it during the coloring process. Sometimes the "U" or "C" is closed into a full circle to hold the color, or dark coloring hides the lines. Such is the case here.
