Don Rosa's comments: SEPTEMBER: CASH FLOW This is a pin-up featuring "Cash Flow", the second long $crooge adventure I ever did (1988), and the first time I used the Beagle Boys! I recall that, always wanting to give my fellow comics fans their "money's worth", I had penciled most of the story showing ten Beagle Boys in each Beagle crowd scene. But then, for some forgotten reason, I went back to check a Beagle detail in the original Barks Beagle adventures, and I noticed that Unca Carl never showed more than seven Beagle Boys in any one panel. So, not wishing to make it seem as though I thought I was trying to "top" my idol, I went back and erased three Beagle Boys from each panel where I showed ten! This was another story in which I used elements from one of my earlier comics that I had done in my engineering college newspaper in 1971, 18 years earlier! I again employed an idea in which surface friction was wiped out; in the original story it was done by a crystal, while in this Duck version it was achieved by a ray gun such as you see here in the hand of the Beagle Boy. Once surface friction was destroyed by this ray, any number of strange results would occur. for one thing, no one could stand up any longer since all surfaces would be slicker than the slickest ice. Nails would fall out of walls. Furniture would all slide to the lowest corner of a room, even if the difference in elevation were microscopic. And when the money in $crooge's Money Bin was blasted with this ray, it became as loose as a liquid - you see it flowing into a tidal wave like water. Meanwhile, Donald is foolishly thinking he might gather the money with a mop and wringer! My pin-up is a rather liberal interpretation of the story's plot (which is a polite way to say that this scene does not really take place in the story! I'm cheating again!). (D.U.C.K. spoiler: the dedication is made up of coins in the fifth "tongue" of cash from the right hanging down from the wave crest. also spotted as being the "tongue" just above the front edge of the top of $crooge's hat.)
