Biography:
In Of Ducks, Dimes and Destinies he is first seen looking for girls in Glasgow in 1877, but there's no doubt that he was an American on visit. To impress the girls he thrown a few American coins (among them what soon was going to be Scrooges first dime) to some children (among them Scrooges sisters who picked up the dime and gave it to their father, who decided to use it to inspire Scrooge to start earning his own money...).
After the meeting with the McDucks and Magica De Spell he realised that Glasgow wasn't the place for him, so he decided to return to the USA. There he must have married soon after, since his son John seems to have been born ca. 1878.
In Lo$, part 4 The Raider of the Copper Hill he appears in Anaconda, Montana. In that story Don Rosa insult John D. Rockerduck by having his own father, Howard Rockerduck, be one of the long line of mentors from whom $crooge gained advice in the course of Lo$.
Note: At first Howard Rockerduck was named "H.C.And" in Denmark (referring to the famous Danish adventure-teller H.C. Andersen (1805-1875)).
