Biography:
Nothing much is known about Arpine Lusène a.k.a. "le chavalier noir" (=the black knight). What is known is that he is a French bon-vivant and a gentleman who lives a double life as the famous master thief "le chavalier noir" who only steal from rich people.
There is no doubt that Don Rosa was inspired by the novels of the famous French author Maurice Leblanc (1864-1941) when he invented Arpin Lusène. From 1907 Leblanc wrote many books about the master thief (who later also appeared as a detective), Arsène Lupin. There has also been done movies based on Leblanc's most famous works. The original look (before the use fo the armour) of The Black Knight is inspired by another French classic character; Fantômas.
Arpin Lusenes goal is to destroy $crooge's money and simply make it seem as if he has stolen it in order to let The Black Knight retire as the greatest master-thief of all times.
