Biography:
There are so far never told anything at all about Ratchet or any other members of the Gearloose family before he appear in Louisville, Kentucky in 1880 as a seller of water cleansing pills. After being knocked down by The Beagle Boys, he was taken care of by Scrooge and Angus McDuck. Together with Scrooge he was hired by Angus McDuck as a crew-member onboard the riverboat the Dollar, with a salary of 30 cents a day. Ratchet continued to work onboard the Dollar until it blew up in 1882 and Scrooge left the riverboat business. After that he first planned to start a bakery. However soon after, in 1883, he appeared in Java where he searched for energy sources more safe than steam. Together with Scrooge he faced the explosion of Krakatoa.
Whatever happened to Ratchet after his trip to Java in 1883 is still unknown, but he probably married and moved to Duckburg where his son Fulton appeared as one of the very first members of The Junior Woodchucks in 1902.
