Founded:

Unknown, but in W.H.A.D.A.L.O.T.T.A.J.A.R.G.O.N. Don Rosa shows that at the point when HD&L joined the Junior Woodchucks ca. 1951, former members of The Chickadees as well as former members of The Junior Woodchucks, worked for Scrooge. We can thus assume that The Chickadees cannot be much younger than The Junior Woodchucks who where founded around 1901. |

History:
The Chickadees appear in 3 stories by Barks. In the first story The Chicadee Challenge from 1955 they were called the South Duckburg Chickadee Patrol. In this story The Chicadees challenged The Junior Woodchucks to see who could in a shortest time, cross a river on a bridge made by them selves. The Chickadees showed to be a real match for TJW and the competition ended with a draw. Their leader wasn't named in that story, but Donald knew that she had been in the army engineers.
When The Chicadees reappeared in 1962 in The merry Ferry HDL called them "Junior Chickadees". Barks probably thought this was more similar to the "Junior Woodchucks". In this story one of the chickadees calls their leader "Mrs. Ramrodd".
In the third story from 1964 Double Masquerade, Barks dropped the extra "d" and gave their leader the title "Captain Ramrod".
While the woodchuck is a mammal, the chickadee is a bird.
