Cover for "A Letter From Home (The Old Castle's Other Secret)", showing an old Knight Templar, Donald and Scrooge. In the background (left) is the McDuck Castle and Scrooge's oldest sister - Matilda McDuck. In the background (right) is the McDuck cemetery and the villain Monsieur Molay. The art in the Scandinavian print of this cover is severely cropped on all sides. The dedication is on a tombstone which unfortunately is completely gone.
Don Rosa says: This cover is no montage made by Egmont - I designed it to mirror the cover for "The Crown of the Crusader Kings" - to stand side-by-side. It's a two part story so I did two nearly matching covers to tie the two stories directly together. The art in the Scandinavian prints of the cover is severely cropped on all sides. There were a number of tombstones on the right, and the dedication was in an inscribed tombstone in the lower right. You can only see a tiny tip of the stone now. So... I need to be sure to always put the dedication on the inner areas of covers.
The sheet of code on the cover contains a secret message that no one but me knew I'd put in there. I offered a free drawing to the first person who decoded it and sent me an e-mail (note the "@" in the ciphers?). The winner was a Norwegian who wrote to me on February 17th [2004].
Click here if you don't bother to decode Don's message yourself.
