On a visit to Mexico Donald coincidentally meets his old friends José Carioca and Panchito Pistoles. They fight the dangerous bandit Alfonso "Gold Hat" Bedoya, and discover a lost silver mine.

The bandit Alfonso "Gold Hat" Bedoya in this story is based on the bandit "Gold Hat" (played by Alfonso Bedoya) in the classic Humphrey Bogart movie "The Treasure of the Sierra Madre" from 1948.
