Comments:

|
Donald and HD&L pay Scrooge a visit in his mansion after their stay on Bear Mountain (shown by Barks in FC-178 "Christmas on Bear Mountain" from 1947). Provocated by Donald, Scrooge takes his nephews to his Money Bin to show them his fortune. Unfortunately they are followed by The Beagle Boys - lead by Blackheart Beagle, all disguised as Santa Claus. After chasing and defeating 8 members of The Beagle Boys Scrooge decides to reopen his financial empire.

Don Rosa's own comments about this story can be read at Dan Shane's great The Life and Times of $crooge McDuck pages.

Interesting facts:

|
In this story Donald and HD&L view Scrooge's money vault for the first time.

Don Rosa added 3 extra pages for the US version (which later ended up in the European hard cover versions as well), he says: "This story had appeared around the rest of the world in a 16-page form. I always thought that version was very abrupt in several spots -- and I had already begged a 16th page onto my usual 15 page limit (given by Egmont) for that original version. But for Gladstone I added three extra pages, not all at once or even as pages, but as tiers of panels spread throughout the story."
