ven though most of Don Rosa's production is comics stories featuring the ducks in Duckburg, his most famous work is still "Donald Duck Family Tree" which was first published in 1993. In one poster Don Rosa shows the family connections between 43 Ducks, McDucks and Coots way back through the centuries. To ensure the family connections in his tree to be as correct as possible Rosa went to the primary source - the unpublished Carl Barks' Duck Family Tree.
Later Don Rosa was asked to add Daisy Duck, her 3 nieces April, May and June and the inventor Gyro Gearloose to the poster as well. Since they didn't belong to the tree they were put in their own column called "Friends of the family" to the right side of the tree.
When Don Rosa's Duck Family Tree was first published in Europe, many people were surprised because in some European stories (and even in a story by the famous Marco Rota) Uncle $crooge and Grandma Duck were said to be brother and sister. But with his family tree Don Rosa finally killed that myth.
"Donald Duck Family Tree" hasn't only been published and republished in most parts of the world; it has also become a standard part of many publishers WEB-pages. However there are some errors in the official Scandinavian on-line versions of the Family Tree. All these errors seem to have occurred because the tree has been (to some extent) redrawn. These errors are:
- There is a wrong connection between Casey Coot and Luke Goose (the father of Gus Goose). In the original (and correct) version, the connection is instead between Casey Coot and Fanny Coot (the mother of Gus Goose).
- The trees show two male-Ducks being married and having all the rest of the old McDuck ancestors as their children in a single generation. What a mess!
